Let me just say off the bat, the fact that I am putting together a FAQ page is like a dream come true to me. It means that people are reading this blog, engaging with it, coming away with questions about myself - questions I am more than happy to answer.
Who are you?
If you don't know me personally, and stumbled across this website by accident, my name is Leah Sadoian, I'm a writer, storyteller, and digital content creator who has a passion to share about my life and my experiences. I've been writing and publishing on this blog since I was 16, and have continued to write semi-regularly ever since then. I'm 25 years old and recently have been revamping my blog and digital content, as I continue to pursue this as a full time career.
When did you start this blog and why?
I started "My Life as Leah" when I was a sophomore in high school. Somewhere along my semester as an honor's english student under the direction of Mrs. Swift, I found a deep love for writing that was probably my least favorite subject prior to starting that class. I was inspired by our school's creative writing class, which required all students to have a blog, and although I was not enrolled in said class, I decided starting a blog would be cool regardless.
Since then, this blog has followed me throughout my college years down in Santa Barbara, across the world to my abroad semester in the middle east, and up and down the mountaintop while I was working at Calvin Crest Conferences. If you take the time to read through a lot of my older entries, you'll be able to follow the ups and downs of my life since I was a teenager, as I found my way through different life experiences, relationships, life transitions, and more.
Recently, I expanded my digital content to YouTube, and also create vlogs that connect with different blog posts and also act as stand alone videos. You can read more about the decision to start a YouTube channel for #mylifeasleah, here.
Where do you go to school?
I graduated from the Westmont College in sunny Santa Barbara in 2014. I was able to attend thanks to the generous contribution of my parents, a hefty scholarship, and the constant persuasion of family friends during my college search. I decided on Westmont after two things - a trip to the college for Admitted Student Days, and probably more decisive, a rejection letter from Boston College, my first choice for most of high school. I can safely say this was the right decision for me. I loved Westmont, I loved the community, the staff, and I mean - who can complain about living in Santa Barbara?
Since then, I've completed my M.S. in College Counseling and Student Development at Azusa Pacific University in the spring of 2016. I spent a year working as a Hall Director after graduate school, before deciding to resign from my position to pursue other endeavors including this blog, my digital content, and content creation in general.
Whoa. You quit a job to go back to doing this?
Yup. It was probably one of the hardest things I have done, to walk away from a great paying job, which also provided an on-campus apartment, meal plan, and incredible benefits, to living at home with my parents and unemployed. But the fact is, I wasn't happy in that job and it was more draining having to show up and do something I didn't want to do every single day.
In the grand scheme of things, I took that job mainly because 1) it was in the same geographical area my boyfriend at the time was moving to for grad school, 2) it was in the same field I worked in previously, and 3) it was the only job offered to me when I finished my graduate degree.
After a few months of thinking, reflection, and seeking wisdom from people I trusted, I voluntarily resigned and left that job. When I came home, I decided to throw myself back into what I knew best -- content creation and development, as a space holder and something to do while I was looking for work (aka unemployed). I assumed I would work in a coffee shop or retail while I did this on the side, and would figure it out later.
And...did anything happen?
Yup. A friend of mine from working at summer camp got in touch with me once she found out I was back in the Central Valley, and asked if I would be interested in doing a short-term contract with her company.
I did a casual interview, sent along a few samples of my writing from this blog and my resume, and started a three-month contract as a Content Developer for them. After my contract ended, they offered me a full-time, salaried position as a Content Developer and Production Assistant. You can learn more about the company here.
Do you have any other blogs?
I tend to update this blog most regularly, but I recently launched a YouTube channel to as a counterpart to this blog. I also have Twitter if you like to read my current doings in 140 characters or less. If you're more picture-inclined, my Instagram, is where I post photographs of my day-to-day life, and Tumblr where I like to post and reblog things of interest. And finally, my Snapchat is mostly photos of my cat and food, but fun stuff none the less! However, the majority of my writing will be found here.
